Information Automatically Logged
This site records your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server and to administer our site.

This site records your browser type to monitor use of various web browsers so we can better determine the Internet technologies we may utilize in the design of our pages.

This site automatically logs information about each user login, about search criteria used, and about volunteer information viewed by those searching the database. This information is used to help us evaluate usage of VT CareerLink. It is shared only in aggregate form - for example, we may report the number of student logins over a period of time by college or major.

This site uses page referrer data - that is, information about the page that linked you to this page - to determine to what extent our page is referenced by other resources on the Web.

This data may be used to preserve the integrity of our computing resources.

Personal Information - Volunteers
The site includes data entry forms which prompt VT CareerLink volunteers to enter several items of personal information, including your name and other details which will allow you to be personally contacted by persons searching the VT CareerLink database.

We share the information you provide only with currently-enrolled Virginia Tech students who log in to VT CareerLink to search the VT CareerLink volunteer database. If you indicate that you will also assist other Virginia Tech alumni, we will also share the information you provide to Virginia Tech graduates who log in to search the VT CareerLink volunteer database.

We share your name, contact information, employer, job title, and educational background with the Virginia Tech Alumni Association so that they can keep their records updated.

Volunteers' names and contact information are also available to a very limited number of persons employed by Virginia Tech's Career Services office or by the Corporate and Foundation Relations staff of University Development, for the purpose of identifying contact persons within organizations with which the University wishes to strengthen its partnership.

We do not share any personal information with any other third parties.

Cookies and Session Management
The VT CareerLink site uses session variables stored as cookies to maintain a continuous user session, to facilitate your navigation through the application, and to display error and confirmation messages. This session information is deleted when your browser is closed.

Links to Virginia Tech and External Sites
The VT CareerLink pages contain no links to other web sites. However, if you entered these pages through the Career Services web site, please note that it does contain links to other Virginia Tech web sites and to web sites outside the University. The privacy practices of other pages may vary. Virginia Tech is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of external web sites.

Security
This site has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under our control. Log file access is restricted to system administrators while stored on the server. Log files are rotated regularly and archived in a secure location.
