Resume critiques
We strongly encourage all students to have your resume critiqued, do revisions, and have additional critiques as needed. We frequently see poor quality resumes that have been submitted to our database, and it's not unusual for us to hear complaints from employers about this. Don't let this be the reason you don't get called for an interview. Every student at Virginia Tech is capable of having a good resume — if you apply the information we provide and seek advice.
Resume critiques are intended to help you tailor your resume to your individual circumstances after you have applied basic information from our Career Services Career Planning Guide (free booklet you can pick up at our office) and/or from the resume and vita information on our web site. Resume critiques are not intended to serve as a tutorial on the basics of how to write a resume. Content and sections of your resume gives you thorough guidelines to apply before seeking a critique.
We offer walk-in advising service, making it easy for you to have a brief critique of your resume without an appointment — walk-in advising is intended as a five-minute session.
If you would like additional time and/or have other job search questions after reading the pertinent job search sections of this web site, schedule an individual advising appointment.
Our busy season occurs in September and October, and just prior to career and job fairs on campus. At those times you might experience a waiting list for walk-in advising, and we need to be strict with time limits to be fair to all students waiting for assistance.
