Learning objectives

  Why
The purpose of establishing learning objectives is for the student and employer to enter into the work assignment with clear and realistic expectations.  This should help each student have a more rewarding experience on the job and protect students from misunderstandings about the work assignment.

  Setting objectives:
Students set learning objectives in consultation with their employers at the beginning of each work term.
The Career Services Undergraduate Co-op / Internship Program advisor will explain this and provide a Learning Objectives form during students' check-out appointments before beginning work.
To get started early, or for another copy of the form, use either:
PDF version (to print and complete by hand)
MS Word version (to complete using MS Word; then print to obtain handwritten signatures)
See the sample learning objectives (PDF file) for guidance developing individual objectives.
Follow instructions on the form for discussing objectives, and completing and returning the form to Career Services within the first four weeks of the work term.

  Evaluating achievement of objectives:
At the end of each work term students complete a Work Report form to describe the extent to which learning objectives were achieved and to evaluate the work term. Students schedule a meeting with your Career Services Undergraduate Co-op / Internship Program advisor to discuss your evaluation, and, if your schedule calls for you to work additional terms, you'll discuss establishing new learning objectives for the upcoming work term.
  You may use either:
PDF version (to print and complete by hand)
MS Word version (to complete using MS Word; no signatures required)
