Finding academic jobs
Use a variety of sources to find jobs and job leads:
- Chronicle of Higher Education job listings
- Web sites with jobs in higher education - includes others in addition to The Chronicle of Higher Education.
- Web sites of institutions with programs that interest you. See the web site of the pertinent department and become familiar with the research and teaching interests of the faculty.
- Web sites for specific career fields - many focus on opportunities for advanced degree holders.
- Books in the Graduate Life Center (GLC).
- Professional journals and professional organization web sites. You would become familiar with these during the course of your graduate education; and you can ask your faculty members for recommendations for your field.
- Networking - what it is and how to do it.
- Networking through professional organizations and at conferences.
- Hokie Nation Network - social and professional networking exclusively for Virginia Tech students and alumni, sponsored by the Virginia Tech Alumni Association. Use this resource to connect with other Hokies by career field, to browse jobs and internships and to network professionally.
