Engineering Science and Mechanics: Description of Major

Engineering science and mechanics focuses on using fundamental principles used to develop engineering solutions to current problems in the physical and life sciences. As technology changes, specific methods and devices grow obsolete, but the fundamental principles stay constant. By understanding those principles, graduates have the technical flexibility needed to adapt to evolving technology.

The curriculum emphasizes the physical sciences and applied mathematics as well as their application to engineering. Students work in small groups in state-of-the-art laboratories. Through their electives, students can specialize in such areas as biomechanics, high-speed transportation systems, biomaterials, modern computer applications, energy sources, noise abatement, and the development of stronger and more reliable materials.
