Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise: Description of Major

Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise builds on the biological and physical sciences to help people maintain good health. The five options include: dietetics; science of food, nutrition, and exercise; community and international nutrition; exercise and health promotion; and consumer foods.

The science of food, nutrition, and exercise option emphasizes courses in chemistry, biology, physiology, metabolic nutrition, food science, and exercise science. Students also fulfill entry requirements for medical, dental, physical therapy, and veterinary school.

The dietetics option combines a strong science background, including chemistry, microbiology, and physiology, with the applied nutrition sciences. The curriculum is approved/accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE), enabling students to apply for CADE approved/accredited internships.

The community and international nutrition option combines the biological and social sciences with applied nutrition and foods and communication methods.

The exercise and health promotion option includes a strong science component along with courses in metabolic and applied nutrition, exercise physiology, and health promotion. Students complete a field experience in a health-fitness or clinical exercise program.

The consumer foods option combines biology, chemistry, food products, and food systems with courses in human nutrition, marketing, management, and communication.
