Sociology: Description of Major

Sociology is the study of social life, social change, and the causes and consequences of human social behavior. Sociologists investigate how group memberships such as family, religion, gender, race, and socio-economic status influence our attitudes and behaviors. Another major focus is on social problems, such as crime, poverty, and ethnic relations.

In addition to completing requirements for the major, students may opt to complete a concentration in crime/deviance or social inequality. Students may also earn academic credit and gain practical experience from internship placements in various agencies related to their course work.
