Executive Summary
   
  The Career Services Post-Graduation Report is the result of Career Services' annual survey to learn the post-graduation plans of Virginia Tech bachelor's degree graduates. See methodology for details.
  At six months following graduation (see methodology for survey process) status was unknown for 14.8% of the university's graduates.
  Status is known for 85.2% of the graduating class.
  For those whose status is known - 85.2% of graduates:
    62% were employed full-time, 6.5% were employed part-time or had other plans; 7.3% were still seeking employment.
    24% entered graduate school full-time.
   
  For employed graduates:
    83.5% of employed graduates indicated their position was related to their career goals. See post-graduation status and career-related employment for college and major statistics.
    Most employed graduates were working in Virginia, Maryland, District of Columbia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Florida and New Jersey. See state locations of employed graduates.
    Personal contacts / networking (43.8%) was the primary method by which employed graduates found their job, followed by Career Services (16.5%), previous experience with the employer (11.9%), Internet (9.2%), and other methods (9.2%).     71% reported having career-related experience during college (summer job, internship, cooperative education position or other experience) that was a factor in obtaining employment after graduation. See experience before graduation for details.
     
  Comparison to Class of 2001:
  For the university as a whole:
    Employment down by 6 percentage points.
    Graduate school attendance up by 7 percentage points.
    Those still seeking employment up by 1.4 percentage points.
    (Those with part-time or other plans vary year to year and by college.)

    Employment up 4 percentage points.
    Graduate school attendance up 8 percentage points.
    Seeking employment up 4 percentage points.
  Architecture and Urban Studies:
    Employment down 18.8 percentage points.
    Graduate school attendance up 15.4 percentage points.
    Seeking employment up 10 percentage points.
  Arts and Sciences:
    Employment down 4 percentage points.
    Graduate school attendance down 4 percentage points.
    Seeking employment up by 2 percentage points.
  Business:
    Employment down 7.5 percentage points.
    Graduate school attendance up 5.3 percentage points.
    Seeking employment up 2.5 percentage points.
  Engineering:
    Employment down 5.8 percentage points.
    Graduate school attendance up 7.5 percentage points.
    Seeking employment percentage unchanged.
  Human Resources and Education:
    Employment down 3.5 percentage points.
    Graduate school attendance up 9.2 percentage points.
    Seeking employment down 1 percentage points.
  Natural Resources:
    Employment down 6.3 percentage points.
    Graduate school attendance up 2.3 percentage points.
    Seeking employment up 5.2 percentage points.
