What are they?

  • Optional. Some employers choose to offer, some don't.
  • Typically held the evening prior to your interview day.
  • Informal opportunity to share information with students, so interview time can be spent more effectively.
  • While Career Services strongly encourages students to attend info sessions, not all students choose or are able to attend.
  • As host, you may offer food and refreshments.
  • In accordance with professional standards, alcohol should not be served in connection with recruiting.
  • If you would like advice about whether, when, and where to hold an information session, please contact us.

To arrange an information session:

  • In the Smith Career Center, contact: Employer Relations staff
  • Elsewhere on campus, contact:
Division of Student Affairs UUSA Event Planning Office:
    (540) 231-5005
That office will notify Career Services of your arrangements, so your session can be publicized through Hokies4Hire.
  • Off campus information sessions
If you arrange an information session off campus in connection with your hotel accommodations, please notify Career Services' employer relations staff so that we can publicize your session through Hokies4Hire.

To verify facts about your information session

  • If you scheduled an information session in connection with On-Campus Interviewing, you may verify your information as follows:
    - Hokies4Hire Employer login
    - Select "Career Events" from the main menu
    - Select "Career Events List"

Publicity to students

  • Employer information sessions are publicized to students on-line through Hokies4Hire
  • You may invite students through direct contact.
  • Career Services strongly encourages students to attend employer information sessions. We are unable to compel students to attend. We ask employers to be aware that students sometimes have schedule conflicts that prevent them from attending all sessions in which they have an interest.
