Undergraduate Cooperative Education / Internship Program (CEIP)
Steps to participation in the program

1. Step One. Required Orientation
Attend the required Orientation to the Undergraduate Cooperative Education / Internship Program that includes job search strategies. Sessions are offered throughout the semester. You only need to attend one. We strongly suggest you attend an orientation before you start your job search, so you will know what to discuss with prospective employers.

If you already have a job offer, GO to Step 5
If you are still searching for a job, continue to Step 2

2. Step Two. Resume Preparation and Approval
Develop your resume and have it critiqued through walk-in advising. For assistance preparing your resume, see resume writing guidance now, or pick up your free Career Planning Guide at Career Services during office hours (includes information about the entire job search process).
More information on these job search skills.

3. Step Three. Complete your Hokies4Hire Registration Profile online & Upload your Resume
The Hokies4Hire system allows you to search job postings of organizations looking for Virginia Tech students for co-op/intern and full-time positions. You may request interviews from organizations participating in OCI (On-Campus Interviewing Program) and apply for other advertised positions. The system will also allow you to view all your OCI interview activity and find out about employer information sessions scheduled through Career Services.

4. Step Four. Job Search and Interviewing
Begin your search for co-op/internship positions.
See where to find co-op and internship jobs for the many sources available to you.
Learn essential job search skills, including how to write job search letters, use e-mail and the telephone in your job search, prepare for job fairs and interviewing, preparing a reference list, and more.
Prepare for interviews: learn more about interviewing.
For more help, take advantage of the Career Services advisors, job search tools/resources, mock interview program, workshops, etc. A checklist will be given to you during orientation.

5. Step Five. Job Offer and Acceptance
Once you accept an offer, stop the job search process and cease interviewing. Do not renege on your commitment. Get your job offer in writing as you will need this for enrolling in the CEIP program. Have your employer provide a written job description to accompany your offer/acceptance letter. See more about when you accept job offer for help with accepting and declining job offers, and sample letters.

6. Step Six. Meet with your CEIP Advisor
Call 231-6241 during office hours to speak to one of our receptionists to make an appointment with your CEIP advisor to enroll in the Cooperative Education / Internship Program, and develop your Work/School Schedule.

7. Step Seven. Obtain Required Signatures on Your Work/School Schedule
Before your check-out appointment, you will need to obtain your academic department’s approval on your Work/School Schedule. If you are an international student, you must also obtain approval from Cranwell International Center. Bring the signed Work/School Schedule to the New Placement Meeting (next step).

8. Step Eight. New Placement Meeting
Call 231-6241 during office hours to sign up for a group meeting to go over administrative issues. Now that all paperwork has been completed, you will be registered in CEP 4084 by the CEIP student services coordinator.
